Friedrichs Family Eye Center Helps Train Medical Assistants
The Martinsville Campus recently presented Friedrichs Family Eye Center with the American National University’s Distinguished Community Employer Award. Director of health science education Gary Jenkins presented a plaque of appreciation to recognize the eye center’s continued support of externship programs and employment opportunities for ANU graduates.
The mission of Friedrichs Family Eye Center is to provide high quality eye health care and vision services to each patient in a caring and comfortable environment. The practice offers a full range of optometrist services, including adult and pediatric eye exams, glaucoma testing, and corrective glasses and contact lenses. In accepting the award, Dr. Gray Friedrichs commented, “This is a very good partnership between American National University and our office that provides community relations and an excellent opportunity for hands-on training.”
The medical practice has proven to be a valuable partner to the Martinsville Campus by providing externships for students in the medical assisting program. The eye center also hired four Martinsville Campus graduates in 2014.
